Maggie's Day 70 of Discovering Love in Annual Events

And they’re off!

They called it again starting at 11:30 this morning for the 32nd Annual Kentucky Derby Festival Run for the Rose’. It is a spectacular event indeed. One in which I volunteered over a span of 17 years and today for the first time I didn’t have to work, only play and photograph it. I loved it!

The element I love most about annual events is the people I get to see. There are relationships that were formed years ago that are deep and sincere and loving and intimate. Yet we only see each another once a year and that is at our annual gathering of the Run for the Rose’ always held the
Tuesday before the Kentucky Derby.

I look forward to this day every year because all I have to do is love the people I am with and I do indeed love them. They are mainstays in my life. They have always been there. They will always be there.

I know every year all I have to do is show up and my favorite people are there loving me just as I am loving them.

So, what is it the binds us together for a day but yet keeps us apart for a year? How interesting it all is. I don’t have the answers. All I know is on the Tuesday before the first Saturday in May I am always loved and honored and I hope the people who are doing that to me know how much I love and respect and honor them.

It’s a beautiful circle of life and love and one day one of us will fall and the circle will not be the same again. But until then, I know there are a group of people whom I love unconditionally just because they show up every year to do their best and mentor those who are coming down the pike after them.

Thank you Kentucky Derby Festival for giving me such beautiful experiences year after year. Now, what can I do for you?
